Gaming Guru shirt, Epic Beard Man, Retro-Pong clock, and Hexen 2 coming to the iPhone

Sunday afternoons, aren’t they lovely? Hope you folks aren’t too slack to read the weekend edition ;)

If you feel like a bit of a god when it comes to gaming, why not get yourself this shirt?

Brilliant, just as brilliant as this retro-themed Pong clock.

You can buy kits from their store as well. So half-way through my upcoming review which I was working on today, I was thinking about the Hexen series, and recalled them being a lot of fun! Luckily a decent port of Hexen II is coming to the iPhone, including a hands-on video from Toucharcade;

But there will be somewhat a delay till this comes out once agreements are made on the Quake engine source code (as it isn’t open source yet). But what is out, is this craze going around the web lately of Epic Beard Man, there’s been comical alternations of the infamous footage floating around like the Punch Out homage which is my personal favourite:

And there’s of course the Mortal Kombat one

Pac-Normal Activity, T-Shirt of all the controllers, and Final Fantasy on the iPhone

Heh, great movie that one, okay onto today’s posts.

YES You would already know that Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are out on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Toucharcade has the scoop on the gameplay and first impressions.

Playing games on the device would cause sore thumbs, but so would all of these controllers, over at Emptees they have a shirt dedicated to the blood, sweat and tears we’ve produced over the games we’ve played all these years:

Although other ways to minimise stress can be used, like this modification of a NES controller:

Without having that feel of paranoia, at least Pac-Man now knows what he was running away from in this comic strip here:

Hope you all have a great weekend!

100 SNES games in 10 minutes, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Space Invaders Jacket and Wonderboy VS Adventure Island

HAH! See how you like it! From Flickr user Seven_Hundred. So okay it’s that fortnightly Thursday, and that means I go to a store to buy one old game, I managed to get this untimely classic for the Super NES:

Bloody hard game, but a lot of fun nevertheless! Okay onto today’s posts: Another great Tumblr blogsite, this time from UK artist Forx. Covering a lot of great and geeky retro stuff as well as showcasing his own artwork. Bravo Tom :)

The adorable Rinry has posted a comparison of Adventure Island on the NES and Wonderboy on the SEGA Master System, as in they’re bloody identical! See for yourself:

Yeeaaaaaah :\ Another facet that has caused a bit of an argument, as I have heard in the past, is whether Mario hits the blocks with his head or his fist. Well this picture should clarify it for those who still think with their heads:

Okay now this is pretty awesome, from San Francisco, D-structure have for sale a jacket with back design resembling those pesky invaders:

Finally we all know how the SNES was a gorgeous console, and many can think of a few games off the top of their heads.. well how about 100? Here’s a video covering 100 titles in 10 minutes. Enjoy, and I’ll see you all tomorrow!

Best Alex Kidd game ever? Street Fighter 4, NBA Jam remake, and Dark Side of the Moon Link

Props to Mel for dropping such an awesome review for what I even consider an awesome game for the SEGA Master System and to do it on her birthday too ^_^ CHEERS!

Okay onto today’s post, I was hesitant of discussing this in a retrogaming site, but this game oozes of traditionalism when it comes to the Street Fighter series which we’ve grown up to love and be inspired from. Super Street Fighter 4 is coming out on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in April which will include additional characters (some old, some new). I’ll no doubt be hanging for that one, perhaps in the meantime I might grab it on the iPhone if it comes out sooner.

Yup. Yup yupyup yup! I’m glad to see that both titles are coming out, as opposed to a remake of NBA Jam which got a minor mention then the announcement was removed all of a sudden.. Word has it that it may still come out for the Wii, but not so much for the 360 or PS3.

A classic title from Midway no doubt. I mean who in the 90’s DIDN’T play that in the arcades or any of the 16 bit consoles? Same goes with the first 3 Mortal Kombat games too, this artwork proves that point that a classic mashed up with a classic CAN work!

Nice work Frank Turner!

Who here fancies an alcoholic beverage? OF course! Well how many like it when playing a video game? If so, then THIS tumblelog is for you! Anything to do with gaming (OLD and new) and drinking!

Finally this amazing desktop wallpaper from Deviantart artist ~NES—still-the-best. Mixing classic music with a classic game moment. Nice work!

Missile Command as a movie, Mario bedspread, Rayman coming to iPhone, and Snoop Dog/Kirby mash-up

Site news, lets see.. well, we’re nearing 400 fans on Facebook, and the forums are back up and running again, and I’ll be starting to play and review Interstate 76 thanks to the wonderful folks at Good Ol’ Games! Okay onto today’s items:

My workmate has found this for me, which is from the Flickr user Gege_Crochet which is a Mario blanket.

Okay this has to take the cake of the most epic and most colourful bedspread I’ve ever seen. What also is quite a colourful game, was the original Rayman, I mention this game because of a mention of it on Toucharcade.com stating that it is heading for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform! Gameloft have also released a trailer on YouTube to share:

I tell you what folks, It’s great in this day and age to be involved in the games industry, especially the money that companies are raking in, even more so than the film industry. Some have thought, “well gee, lets combine both!” Sadly many have failed (The Street Fighter 2 live action film, need I say more?)

Well, LA Times have an article about how Missile Command might be turned into a potential movie franchise.. I don’t know.. I guess time will tell, right? Maybe I should do a competition on the forums regarding people’s favourite film based on a video game, and perhaps the winner will get 2 tickets to go see this if it comes out? IF I go, I’ll have to smuggle booze in to the cinemas, probably with this bag:

Finally to end today’s post, I’d just like to add this hilarious mashup of music from Kirby and Snoop Dog (originally from YTMND). Till tomorrow folks, keep playing those retro-games :)

NSFW? pic w/ Famicom controllers, love candy in games, Metal covers of game music, and Mario’s past careers

Okay, you probably notice that the forum is down at the moment, we’re working on getting that back up and running again. Apologies for any inconveniences caused!

So I came across this top 10 list right over on vgchartz, about all the other careers that Mario undertook through his entire time in games. I giggled a lot over the pictures more than anything:

That is meant to be that Mario was a dinosaur herder. I loved playing with my Dino Riders toys lonnnnnng time ago. I wish I had the T-Rex, okay I’m going off course here, might also be because of this picture that I came across on Tumblr today:

(WARNING: the following image may be unsafe for work, you’ve been warned)

Now that I posted that, I’ll post THIS:

Awesome piece of art I must say! Kind of like all the winners on Kotaku’s site, where they had a competition on how they can incorporate those love heart lollies with words on them:

Finally, being a Monday, we have for you the music of the week, coming from Brazil is the Heavy Metal sensation MegaDriver! They re-create tunes from classic video games into a brutish kind of sound. Here is a video of them playing at an anime convention in their home country

I hope there’s going to be bands at AVcon, I’ve never been, but I plan to go this year :) Well, we (as in all of retrospekt) are going to go!

Weekend edition: Mario Land 2 review for Game Boy, Pac-Man Scarf and a Tetris loveheart tattoo!

Source

Hope everybody’s been having a good weekend so far! Etsy.com once again has another great item for sale, this time being a Pac-Man Scarf:

I was told that I should get this as a tattoo, I’m not too sure personally, like for myself. But yeah that is one badass Tetris tattoo!

What is also pretty badass is the latest review submitted by our resident writer Paul, this time covering Super Mario Land 2 for the Game Boy.

Have a great evening, we’ll see you all tomorrow!

An Angry Nerd, King of Kong Winner reclaimed, Retro shirts and phone cases, and 70’s Afro Muscle Cars!

Source

I’d love to know who the band is there, but I saw that today and thought that’s just full of awesome!

UPDATE: yeah I DO notice the Xbox 360 controller in Reptile’s hand, no need to tell me :P

Okay onto the news..

Last night a new Angry Video Game Nerd was released, talking about the Swordquest games on the Atari 2600, check it out HERE!

Onto other announcements, how many of you have watched the documentary King of Kong? You know, the story of two champions fighting for the world top score of Donkey Kong on the arcade? Well.. Steve Weibe has finally reclaimed the world record, proof is on Twingalaxies.com. I don’t know, perhaps Steve should be wearing THIS T-shirt instead?

Okay one would ask what game uses a Player 1 Joystick and a Player 2 Button, right? Either way, yet another brilliant shirt from Threadless.com.

Speaking of custom-made stuff, Michael Tesch has submitted his artwork on Infectious.com which is a skin of a NES controller for an iPhone or iPod.

Finally GOG.com has announced this morning that Interstate 76 is re-released for Windows XP/Vista/7 so what are you waiting for? GO TO THE SITE NOW! Or are you waiting for us to review it? Keep on them Facebook, Twitter or RSS feeds to stay up to date with Retrospekt :D Have a great weekend everybody!

Sonic 4 “leaked” Video, Neo Geo Love, Custom Game Boys, and kickass Earthworm Jim Posters

We got a lot to cover today, so lets get to it! Joystiq.com has gotten hold of a screenshot and a leaked video of Sonic 4:

I can’t wait for this, and yeah most likely will get this for the 360 on XBLA! As we talk about a retro-feeling title for a new-gen console, we better mention a new game on an old-gen console as spotted on Kotaku (Thanks Facebook fan Nik Newland), called Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril, by Sivak Games for the NES and here’s a video of the trailer:

Looks like a lot of fun, fresh looking retro platformer for sure, speaking of platformers, the artist Frenden made a great illustration/poster of Earthworm Jim and Psycrow. Check it out:

Very funky, kind of like this custom-made Game Boy made for Chiptune band Anamanaguchi, designed by Thretris.

Be sure to check out Anamanaguchi’s work as well HERE. Whilst on the topic of music, Facebook fan Adrian Ilsey has spotted this on Screwattack, a music video singing about Neo Geo arcade machines!

Thanks for that! :D Also my good friend Rachel Carger has spotted these cute Mushroom keychains on Dealextreme.

Props to everyone who have stumbled across these items, see you folks tomorrow!

Hadouken in Mega Man X, Space Invaders quilt set, Stupid Tetris, and Mana Bar official opening date!

Hi folks, it’s humpday today. Middle of the week, not long to the weekend! So a workmate told me about this video here, as I was talking about how awesome Tetris is, and THE theme music (not only my ringtone) is also part of a new tradition when a lot of delivery boxes come to our office, we play the song loudly when we’re trying to fit the boxes up against the wall, so here’s the video my workmate told me about.

I love Japanese television ^_^ Whilst on the topic of videos, one I saw just before as I got home, which reminded me that I needed to buy Mega Man X again, is that I totally forgot about this kickass easter egg, being able to obtain the Ha-Dou-Ken as a power-up!

Capcom you’ve won my heart once again! Just as much as this Space Invaders quilt spotted on Flickr user Meowypants’ album.

Sure as hell beats mine:

but I still adore my quilt set, generic, but shows that I’m a retrogaming geek at heart! Although one thing I’d love to master, if I had a coffee machine at home, is this amazing photo from Deviant Art user Monkdrew:

Lots of time and effort put into that no doubt! As is hunting for cool gaming gear on eBay.. Luckily THIS item is available for “Buy It Now”:

So if you have a spare NES or SNES controller, you can go right ahead and plug that in to your Wiimote for almost-proper classic gaming on a new-gen console!

Speaking of content related to new-gen consoles (BUT HOPEFULLY retro games later down the track), Australia’s first Video Game bar, the Mana Bar will be opening to the public on Saturday 20th March 2010. So be sure to start booking those tickets to Brisbane now. This will be a big event no doubt.

Happy 20th Mario 3, Mario Paint music composer, local retrogaming stores and Super Play!

To start off today, I’d like to mention Paul’s review he did for Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles on the Amstrad CPC. Hell even I learnt something there :D Great post!

I don’t know about you folks, but to me, personally music plays a large role in the games we play, be it old and new, but of course we’re talking about the old.  Raise of hands for those that had a SNES, right, lots of you, keep’em up if you had Mario Paint.. okay not so many hands then? Well for those that were lucky to have experienced it, by renting it or owning it would remember the music making part of it.

That of course is the Dr Wily Stage 1 music from Mega Man 2 done not with Mario Paint, but a program made for OSX and Windows to let you create the same tunes with the same style of sound in it. Available as a free download HERE.

One of our correspondents for Melbourne went on a mission to check out a store in Elizabeth Street called Dungeon Crawl.

Half of what they have in stock are PC games, as for console gear, most of it is modern as well. They do however have a handful of PS and N64 titles, so if you’re a fan of both consoles, and live in Melbourne? Check it out. That’s if you don’t live near any Gametraders stores that is.

Speaking about stores, if you live in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, be sure to drop on down to

Games 4 All
847 Main North Rd, Pooraka.
PH: 0414 616 815
Email: darrenmt68@yahoo.com.au

Superb selection of games/consoles, a lot of stuff boxed as well. Be sure to drop by if you’re in the area!

Speaking about collectibles, I won a bid on eBay for this magazine:

So happy I got it at last. Folks this was a great magazine from the SNES era, also the artwork of the featured game were anime versions of the characters! Very cool stuff!!

I’ll finish today’s post with an article from Gamesradar.com on Super Mario Bros. 3 considering it’s been 20 years since it came out. Gee time flies when we all have fun gaming!
