Gaming Guru shirt, Epic Beard Man, Retro-Pong clock, and Hexen 2 coming to the iPhone

Sunday afternoons, aren’t they lovely? Hope you folks aren’t too slack to read the weekend edition ;)

If you feel like a bit of a god when it comes to gaming, why not get yourself this shirt?

Brilliant, just as brilliant as this retro-themed Pong clock.

You can buy kits from their store as well. So half-way through my upcoming review which I was working on today, I was thinking about the Hexen series, and recalled them being a lot of fun! Luckily a decent port of Hexen II is coming to the iPhone, including a hands-on video from Toucharcade;

But there will be somewhat a delay till this comes out once agreements are made on the Quake engine source code (as it isn’t open source yet). But what is out, is this craze going around the web lately of Epic Beard Man, there’s been comical alternations of the infamous footage floating around like the Punch Out homage which is my personal favourite:

And there’s of course the Mortal Kombat one

Pac-Normal Activity, T-Shirt of all the controllers, and Final Fantasy on the iPhone

Heh, great movie that one, okay onto today’s posts.

YES You would already know that Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are out on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Toucharcade has the scoop on the gameplay and first impressions.

Playing games on the device would cause sore thumbs, but so would all of these controllers, over at Emptees they have a shirt dedicated to the blood, sweat and tears we’ve produced over the games we’ve played all these years:

Although other ways to minimise stress can be used, like this modification of a NES controller:

Without having that feel of paranoia, at least Pac-Man now knows what he was running away from in this comic strip here:

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Best Alex Kidd game ever? Street Fighter 4, NBA Jam remake, and Dark Side of the Moon Link

Props to Mel for dropping such an awesome review for what I even consider an awesome game for the SEGA Master System and to do it on her birthday too ^_^ CHEERS!

Okay onto today’s post, I was hesitant of discussing this in a retrogaming site, but this game oozes of traditionalism when it comes to the Street Fighter series which we’ve grown up to love and be inspired from. Super Street Fighter 4 is coming out on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in April which will include additional characters (some old, some new). I’ll no doubt be hanging for that one, perhaps in the meantime I might grab it on the iPhone if it comes out sooner.

Yup. Yup yupyup yup! I’m glad to see that both titles are coming out, as opposed to a remake of NBA Jam which got a minor mention then the announcement was removed all of a sudden.. Word has it that it may still come out for the Wii, but not so much for the 360 or PS3.

A classic title from Midway no doubt. I mean who in the 90’s DIDN’T play that in the arcades or any of the 16 bit consoles? Same goes with the first 3 Mortal Kombat games too, this artwork proves that point that a classic mashed up with a classic CAN work!

Nice work Frank Turner!

Who here fancies an alcoholic beverage? OF course! Well how many like it when playing a video game? If so, then THIS tumblelog is for you! Anything to do with gaming (OLD and new) and drinking!

Finally this amazing desktop wallpaper from Deviantart artist ~NES—still-the-best. Mixing classic music with a classic game moment. Nice work!

Missile Command as a movie, Mario bedspread, Rayman coming to iPhone, and Snoop Dog/Kirby mash-up

Site news, lets see.. well, we’re nearing 400 fans on Facebook, and the forums are back up and running again, and I’ll be starting to play and review Interstate 76 thanks to the wonderful folks at Good Ol’ Games! Okay onto today’s items:

My workmate has found this for me, which is from the Flickr user Gege_Crochet which is a Mario blanket.

Okay this has to take the cake of the most epic and most colourful bedspread I’ve ever seen. What also is quite a colourful game, was the original Rayman, I mention this game because of a mention of it on Toucharcade.com stating that it is heading for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform! Gameloft have also released a trailer on YouTube to share:

I tell you what folks, It’s great in this day and age to be involved in the games industry, especially the money that companies are raking in, even more so than the film industry. Some have thought, “well gee, lets combine both!” Sadly many have failed (The Street Fighter 2 live action film, need I say more?)

Well, LA Times have an article about how Missile Command might be turned into a potential movie franchise.. I don’t know.. I guess time will tell, right? Maybe I should do a competition on the forums regarding people’s favourite film based on a video game, and perhaps the winner will get 2 tickets to go see this if it comes out? IF I go, I’ll have to smuggle booze in to the cinemas, probably with this bag:

Finally to end today’s post, I’d just like to add this hilarious mashup of music from Kirby and Snoop Dog (originally from YTMND). Till tomorrow folks, keep playing those retro-games :)

An Angry Nerd, King of Kong Winner reclaimed, Retro shirts and phone cases, and 70's Afro Muscle Cars!

Source

I’d love to know who the band is there, but I saw that today and thought that’s just full of awesome!

UPDATE: yeah I DO notice the Xbox 360 controller in Reptile’s hand, no need to tell me :P

Okay onto the news..

Last night a new Angry Video Game Nerd was released, talking about the Swordquest games on the Atari 2600, check it out HERE!

Onto other announcements, how many of you have watched the documentary King of Kong? You know, the story of two champions fighting for the world top score of Donkey Kong on the arcade? Well.. Steve Weibe has finally reclaimed the world record, proof is on Twingalaxies.com. I don’t know, perhaps Steve should be wearing THIS T-shirt instead?

Okay one would ask what game uses a Player 1 Joystick and a Player 2 Button, right? Either way, yet another brilliant shirt from Threadless.com.

Speaking of custom-made stuff, Michael Tesch has submitted his artwork on Infectious.com which is a skin of a NES controller for an iPhone or iPod.

Finally GOG.com has announced this morning that Interstate 76 is re-released for Windows XP/Vista/7 so what are you waiting for? GO TO THE SITE NOW! Or are you waiting for us to review it? Keep on them Facebook, Twitter or RSS feeds to stay up to date with Retrospekt :D Have a great weekend everybody!

TG16 classic on iPhone, NES for $15,000, Apple II Chiptune Synth, tasteful Ms Pacman shirt

Our writer Paul hasn’t seen this yet, but I’m sure he won’t be too excited, even though he really digs the Turbografx-16/PC Engine, doesn’t take much interest in the iPhone platform as much.. Until he actually owns one methinks ;) Mentioning that, the game Military Madness: Neo Nectaris is out.

and Toucharcade.com has written up a great review.

Something else that’s been floating around the web which was worth reviewing as well, is that on eBay there is a NES going for sale with 5 games, for over US$13,500, here is what you get with it:

The winner’s amount earned would be music to their ears, as would be using say an Apple II for a live performance at a Chiptune gig

You can purchase a 5.25” Floppy Disk for around US$20 from 8bitweapon.com.

Whilst you’re at it, you might as well wear this T-Shirt on stage:

The site is down when I checked earlier today, but try again next day, as they’re doing maintenance.

Riven and Amiga coming to iPhone, PacMan cake, Pixelated furniture, and Mecha-Mario!

So two big announcements for the iPhone gaming community today which got me excited no doubt!

Have many of you played Myst? Like even on the iPhone? You’ll be glad to know that the sequel Riven is coming soon!!

Whilst on the subject of this portable gaming platform, for those that know of, as well as have read my review of the Commodore 64 app right? Well Toucharcade.com mentioned, that Manomio has announced that they’re releasing an Amiga emulator!

Alright, calm yourselves down.. might be the lack of sugar.. or too much sugar? Either way, how’s this for a cake?

Jetcitycakes.com (which I believe is in USA), have for us to drool on, the PacMan arcade machine. Now you’re going to need a place to put that cake on, how about pixelated furniture?

Look no further than Joonghochoi.com for this extraordinary table. Another thing perhaps one could put on a table, or somewhere where kickass ornaments belong, would be this custom-made mecha mario, submitted by Flickr user Ekola:

Okay, I must go now and finish the next Dungeon in Zelda 3: A Link to the Past. And due to it being summertime here in Australia, I’m going to have a Drink to the Past. Beer is in order!

Monday 8th February 2010: SNES on N900, ROTT on iPhone, Nerdcore rap, Video game flops, and sexy retrogaming art!

Survived the day today of work or studies or other miscellaneous activities? I hope so!

So lets start off by mentioning, that our resident writer Paul Monopoli, has submitted a review of Wonderboy 3: The Dragon’s Trap, for the Sega Master System, PC Engine, and TurboGrafx 16. Cheers Paul!

No segue for this one, except that segue doesn’t rhyme with SEGA. How many of you own a Nokia N900? plenty of you, right? I should know, I have mates who use the words “bet, your, iphone, can’t, do, that” in every sentence when they talk to me about it. Well. I admit this is cool, but is it really worth it on such a small screen?

Engadget reports that someone has managed to hack the kernel of the N900 to pick up a Sixaxis Playstation 3 controller on one of these to play, oh I don’t know.. SNES ROMS?

I don’t know, personally I prefer the real deal, but nevertheless a very cool and respectably geeky concept! Which a lot can’t be said unfortunately for some of the items in this list provided by Sloshspot.com. 9 of the biggest Video Game Flops?

Source

With that as an exception, I’m sure a lot of people here will be arguing about others.. dare I say that the Neo Geo is listed? Oh oh! Tell you what, why not argue about it in our flame-retardant forums :)

Another way one can calm down from such heated discussions, is of course looking at gorgeous artwork. This gallery is from Flickr user techthis. Not all of it is retrogame-themed, but those that are, are amazing! here’s one for example:

which is now my phone’s wallpaper!  Another artist I’ve come across with a retrogame-theme to the artwork, is from the Behance network.

Artwork by Genaro Desia.

Not as artistic, but a memorable classic from the PC/DOS era, Toucharcade has reported that Rise of the Triad has been officially announced for release on the iPhone by Apogee and Mobillia Interactive. Most of you folks would have seen me briefly cover Rise of the Triad on Retrospekt’s first video? Do so if you haven’t, otherwise here is some footage of the upcoming title:

I’ll end today’s findings with a chiptune of the week. Every week Retrospekt will cover at least one new tune, be it an original chiptune, or something from a video game that has hit our nerves, I’ll leave you folks with this beautiful chiptune/hiphop piece from Nerdcore artist YTcracker, called Meganerd:

BREAKING: Final Fantasy I and II coming to iPhone! →

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!

Not much said so far from Square Enix DLG’s Facebook fan page, but from what it seems, they’ve finally taken a serious stab at the platform and gone back to retrogaming on this one! Could this mean that Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger be around the corner as well? We can only hope, right folks?

Gizmodo | Ultimate Genesis: Sega's Official Console Emulator for iPhone →

(Image from Gizmodo.com)

I’m glad that more apps like these are finally coming out, like the Commodore 64 Emulator App we reviewed late last year, this concept will be similar. Pretty much being a Mega Drive/Genesis emulator, you can then purchase games within the app to play. It will come with Space Harrier 2, but at release date of the app, there should be the following available:

- Ecco the Dolphin
- Golden Axe
- Shining Force
- Sonic the Hedgehog

Here’s hoping they’ll allow Sega Master System emulation too.. You get it SEGA?

Watch the iTunes app store for the next few days or a week give or take.
