So the Green Zone is coming out in the cinemas on March the 11th, so this Thursday apparently, so why not we get people even more excited with the film (if anyone is), with this masterpiece from Halolz:

On the topic of films and television, here’s a site which has an archive of old NES/Famicom ads from the US, Japan and Germany. Admittingly this still creeps me out:
*shiver* Okay.. onto another topic.. well okay shit still related.. An interesting blog about how SEGA should give Nintendo the rights to make Sonic games.. Agree? Disagree? Perhaps again can be asked about the 50 3D milestones in video games throughout history?

This is too cute not to share with you folks, same with this tattoo:

Do you live in the UK? Might want to pop down 386 Claremont Road, Manchester at some point. Why?

Talk about brotherly rivalry! Oh well.. and FINALLY from Engadget.com, they talk about this cartridge for the Super NES/Super Famicom which allows you to play SNES roms straight from the cartridge:

Although one could ask if it is worth the US$170 or not. It’s still and illegitimate (and I’m sure many would agree, improper!) Nevertheless, if it’s for you, then be sure to check the site out.

We hope you folks are having a great weekend so far. Onto today’s posts:
As most of you who are retro-gamers, would know that the new Angry Video Game Nerd is out, this time covering the Pong consoles. Fascinating stuff, I need to find a solid pong-playing device one day…

This is adorable, somebody made a Mario Amigurumi doll. For those who don’t know, Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting dolls.

Although this monstrosity (besides the Mega Drive) has a lot to explain. Not so much needs explanation on what’s happening here:

Don’t be surprised if I get that kind of shelf at my place! But you won’t catch me ever wearing this though, that’ll be for the wife! :)

Have a great rest of the weekend (and if you live in South Australia, then have a great long weekend!) Tune in tomorrow evening for more Retrospekt!

Well I’m tempted to get this device actually, props to Paul for submitting the review for us so promptly! He only got that thing in the mail yesterday!
So I was reading up the other day about this new game that SEGA released, called Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, which fascinates me due to the amount of characters in the game, especially the fact they went into detail to include the likes of Alex Kidd and the Bonanza Brothers! But where is Bin and Pin from Dynamite Dux? :(

Probably just as well as the main character from Altered Beast isn’t in it, right?

Who here has or is still playing Nethack? Then you might be in luck, as I think this is meant to be a remake of that game, free to download for OSX, Windows and Linux! Here’s some game footage:
Oh and it’s free!
Taco Bell in the states have a promotion where you buy a meal, and then get an Atari game at a price

Although I think that top left one isn’t meant to be Breakout.. Oh well! Still pretty cool, and they’re flash-based on CD.
Although I’d be pissed if I get any salsa allover this shirt..

Okay folks, I hope you have a great long weekend (if you live in South Australia), get a couple of hours in to play some video games, as it looks like the weather may not be on our side!

Props to Mel for dropping such an awesome review for what I even consider an awesome game for the SEGA Master System and to do it on her birthday too ^_^ CHEERS!
Okay onto today’s post, I was hesitant of discussing this in a retrogaming site, but this game oozes of traditionalism when it comes to the Street Fighter series which we’ve grown up to love and be inspired from. Super Street Fighter 4 is coming out on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in April which will include additional characters (some old, some new). I’ll no doubt be hanging for that one, perhaps in the meantime I might grab it on the iPhone if it comes out sooner.
Yup. Yup yupyup yup! I’m glad to see that both titles are coming out, as opposed to a remake of NBA Jam which got a minor mention then the announcement was removed all of a sudden.. Word has it that it may still come out for the Wii, but not so much for the 360 or PS3.

A classic title from Midway no doubt. I mean who in the 90’s DIDN’T play that in the arcades or any of the 16 bit consoles? Same goes with the first 3 Mortal Kombat games too, this artwork proves that point that a classic mashed up with a classic CAN work!

Nice work Frank Turner!
Who here fancies an alcoholic beverage? OF course! Well how many like it when playing a video game? If so, then THIS tumblelog is for you! Anything to do with gaming (OLD and new) and drinking!
Finally this amazing desktop wallpaper from Deviantart artist ~NES—still-the-best. Mixing classic music with a classic game moment. Nice work!

Site news, lets see.. well, we’re nearing 400 fans on Facebook, and the forums are back up and running again, and I’ll be starting to play and review Interstate 76 thanks to the wonderful folks at Good Ol’ Games! Okay onto today’s items:
My workmate has found this for me, which is from the Flickr user Gege_Crochet which is a Mario blanket.

Okay this has to take the cake of the most epic and most colourful bedspread I’ve ever seen. What also is quite a colourful game, was the original Rayman, I mention this game because of a mention of it on Toucharcade.com stating that it is heading for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform! Gameloft have also released a trailer on YouTube to share:
I tell you what folks, It’s great in this day and age to be involved in the games industry, especially the money that companies are raking in, even more so than the film industry. Some have thought, “well gee, lets combine both!” Sadly many have failed (The Street Fighter 2 live action film, need I say more?)

Well, LA Times have an article about how Missile Command might be turned into a potential movie franchise.. I don’t know.. I guess time will tell, right? Maybe I should do a competition on the forums regarding people’s favourite film based on a video game, and perhaps the winner will get 2 tickets to go see this if it comes out? IF I go, I’ll have to smuggle booze in to the cinemas, probably with this bag:

Finally to end today’s post, I’d just like to add this hilarious mashup of music from Kirby and Snoop Dog (originally from YTMND). Till tomorrow folks, keep playing those retro-games :)
Text
Okay, you probably notice that the forum is down at the moment, we’re working on getting that back up and running again. Apologies for any inconveniences caused!
So I came across this top 10 list right over on vgchartz, about all the other careers that Mario undertook through his entire time in games. I giggled a lot over the pictures more than anything:

That is meant to be that Mario was a dinosaur herder. I loved playing with my Dino Riders toys lonnnnnng time ago. I wish I had the T-Rex, okay I’m going off course here, might also be because of this picture that I came across on Tumblr today:
(WARNING: the following image may be unsafe for work, you’ve been warned)

Now that I posted that, I’ll post THIS:

Awesome piece of art I must say! Kind of like all the winners on Kotaku’s site, where they had a competition on how they can incorporate those love heart lollies with words on them:

Finally, being a Monday, we have for you the music of the week, coming from Brazil is the Heavy Metal sensation MegaDriver! They re-create tunes from classic video games into a brutish kind of sound. Here is a video of them playing at an anime convention in their home country
I hope there’s going to be bands at AVcon, I’ve never been, but I plan to go this year :) Well, we (as in all of retrospekt) are going to go!

To start off today, I’d like to mention Paul’s review he did for Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles on the Amstrad CPC. Hell even I learnt something there :D Great post!
I don’t know about you folks, but to me, personally music plays a large role in the games we play, be it old and new, but of course we’re talking about the old. Raise of hands for those that had a SNES, right, lots of you, keep’em up if you had Mario Paint.. okay not so many hands then? Well for those that were lucky to have experienced it, by renting it or owning it would remember the music making part of it.
That of course is the Dr Wily Stage 1 music from Mega Man 2 done not with Mario Paint, but a program made for OSX and Windows to let you create the same tunes with the same style of sound in it. Available as a free download HERE.
One of our correspondents for Melbourne went on a mission to check out a store in Elizabeth Street called Dungeon Crawl.

Half of what they have in stock are PC games, as for console gear, most of it is modern as well. They do however have a handful of PS and N64 titles, so if you’re a fan of both consoles, and live in Melbourne? Check it out. That’s if you don’t live near any Gametraders stores that is.
Speaking about stores, if you live in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, be sure to drop on down to
Games 4 All
847 Main North Rd, Pooraka.
PH: 0414 616 815
Email: darrenmt68@yahoo.com.au

Superb selection of games/consoles, a lot of stuff boxed as well. Be sure to drop by if you’re in the area!
Speaking about collectibles, I won a bid on eBay for this magazine:

So happy I got it at last. Folks this was a great magazine from the SNES era, also the artwork of the featured game were anime versions of the characters! Very cool stuff!!
I’ll finish today’s post with an article from Gamesradar.com on Super Mario Bros. 3 considering it’s been 20 years since it came out. Gee time flies when we all have fun gaming!

Hope you folks managed to absorb the review for Pang on the Amstrad GX4000 which Paul submitted yesterday.
What I have noticed today around the web is that I’ve come across a lot of gift ideas, many crafty kind of stuff like this one.

It’s a wallet with containment space for keys, usb sticks, and plays video game sounds of your choice. Great guide on how to make one, same goes with this clever design:

Which is well, a coin purse or wallet thing from a NES controller. Be sure to check Instructables.com for more DIY guides for many many useful items. Whilst on the subject of crafts, here’s some official bling:

The J piece from Tetris. Be sure to send US$450 to my account before I go and get one ;) What I don’t want however, unless I get married (BHAHAHAHAHHA) is this Super Mario wedding cake, granted it is pretty bloody epic looking:

Although I guess one aspect to look into before and after marriage of course, is safe sex. That’s okay, just laugh it out, I said SEX!
(WARNING: not only is the following content possibly NSFW, but also having to stress out that YES it is a legitimate video from Nintendo and Nintendo Power. You’ve’ been warned)
Okay I do apologise if anyone was offended by this video, be it for the racial stereotypes, or the imagery. To make it up to you, how about I show you artwork a friend of mine made recently? good! here it is:

Artwork by Dale Keogh
Finally to end today’s post with some amazing news. Not only is Rise of the Triad finally out for the iPhone, more screenshots of the iPhone version of Final Fantasy I & II are available. Enjoy this trailer for the game coming very soon!!!!

So two big announcements for the iPhone gaming community today which got me excited no doubt!
Have many of you played Myst? Like even on the iPhone? You’ll be glad to know that the sequel Riven is coming soon!!

Whilst on the subject of this portable gaming platform, for those that know of, as well as have read my review of the Commodore 64 app right? Well Toucharcade.com mentioned, that Manomio has announced that they’re releasing an Amiga emulator!
Alright, calm yourselves down.. might be the lack of sugar.. or too much sugar? Either way, how’s this for a cake?

Jetcitycakes.com (which I believe is in USA), have for us to drool on, the PacMan arcade machine. Now you’re going to need a place to put that cake on, how about pixelated furniture?

Look no further than Joonghochoi.com for this extraordinary table. Another thing perhaps one could put on a table, or somewhere where kickass ornaments belong, would be this custom-made mecha mario, submitted by Flickr user Ekola:

Okay, I must go now and finish the next Dungeon in Zelda 3: A Link to the Past. And due to it being summertime here in Australia, I’m going to have a Drink to the Past. Beer is in order!

Text
Okay lets get to it, here’s a T-Shirt which really stood out for me:

It’s amazing how a controller can be so symbolic, for me personally the SNES controller stands out as a classic, I mean Nintendo wouldn’t have made a Wii peripheral based on it otherwise, right?
Moving onto a new platform building up to be on par with PSP and DS, I’m talking about the iPhone. The folks at Toucharcade have been informed that Doom II RPG has been released onto the App Store today. I’ve never played a single RPG version of any of the ID Software titles. If you folks want a review done, let us know, and we’ll get one done!

Whilst on the topic of handhelds, thegadgetsite has spotted this device. As many other news sites have stated, I agree, it seems to be confused itself on what the device’s purpose is in life.

It apparently plays GameBoy/NES ROMS as well as movies, music and .SWF files. It seems to favour Nintendo platforms a lot as the choice on what it supports, which brings to an interesting top ten article, from Joystick Division. We all know the most famous franchises from Nintendo right? You wouldn’t be a gamer or retrogamer for that matter otherwise, but what about ones which were either one-off’s or just somehow didn’t make it as a name that everyone will murmur in their sleep.. not that I do.. But how many of you actually heard of Unirally? or Odama? Click here to find out more.
Granted that article does cover a lot more of the recent-gen consoles like the GameCube, at least this next article covers something which belongs in a museum! Over to Retrothing.com, is an article about connecting a 300 baud modem from 1964 to a Linux notebook to hook it up to the Internet. Even more so the video:
And finally, to end the evening on a manic, yet funny mode, is this tumbleblog dedicated to anything and everything nintendo, mostly in pictures. Simply called FuckYeaNintendo!
No idea where these guys find most of these pictures, but they are downright hilarious and also cool in a geeky way, like here’s some examples;

Amazing. Keep playing those old games folks :) Same bat time tomorrow!

Hi folks, it’s been a while since we posted something, so we’re going to try a new formula. Every evening, usually around news time on the television, we will post to you top findings for the day in one article instead of bombarding folks on Twitter and Facebook with numerous posts. So here we go:
Spotted this on the web, American rapper Pharrell Williams showing off his videogame-themed bling bling!

Source: thelifefiles.com
Yes please! Speaking about rapping, Collegehumor has a great video inspired from the GameBoy classic Super Mario Land.
Still stuck in my head.. Speaking of things which are hard to get out of one’s mind, are 25 of the worst video-game stock photos collated by GameSpy AU. You know what stock photos are right?

Source: GameSpyAU
Now, like every other internet (ab)user like myself. I’m a sucker for funny videos from YouTube, extra points for manic on top of funny, and even more bonus points for retrogame-themed, on top of manic, on top.. well you get the idea. Is Mega Man (or Rock Man) powerful enough to defeat every boss in the one room? Find out from this video here:
What’s hard to find is decent wallpaper on the web, especially really slick ones dedicated to retrogaming. Well look no further, here we have DeviantArt artist Orioto with a breathtaking homage to R-Type:

Source: Orioto’s Deviant Art page
Maybe the internet knows that valentines day is around the corner, and it knows how to trick a guy like me into falling for someone.. One way could be with this poem on a T-Shirt perhaps?

Source: Shirt.Woot
Whilst on the gag-reactionary topic of love, and wanting love, the internet has also informed me also that Lady Gaga is single and looking for a boyfriend! Well..

Source: Skullswap
So that is it for today’s daily findings. Hope you enjoy this new formula, if not, please let us know!

Competition time! To celebrate 300 fans enjoying the hard work we’ve been doing on Retrospekt for the past six months, we’ll be giving away one of these in working condition, with Super Mario Land.
I will ask one simple question on the Facebook fanpage.
To enter: simply join the Facebook Fanpage, and get the question correct. The question will be up as soon as I see 300 fans on the page.
NOTE: this competition is open only to residents of planet Earth!
SECOND NOTE: If at any time the amount of fans drop under 300 during the competition, the question and answer will be invalid, and a new question will be created until we have a winner during the 300 fan period :P
Photo reblogged from Bomb.Dope. Legit. Fresh. with 32 notes

Okay scrap the idea of getting just a SNES logo for a tat on the arm.. THIS might be something to go for…
