HAH! See how you like it! From Flickr user Seven_Hundred. So okay it’s that fortnightly Thursday, and that means I go to a store to buy one old game, I managed to get this untimely classic for the Super NES:

Bloody hard game, but a lot of fun nevertheless! Okay onto today’s posts: Another great Tumblr blogsite, this time from UK artist Forx. Covering a lot of great and geeky retro stuff as well as showcasing his own artwork. Bravo Tom :)
The adorable Rinry has posted a comparison of Adventure Island on the NES and Wonderboy on the SEGA Master System, as in they’re bloody identical! See for yourself:
Yeeaaaaaah :\ Another facet that has caused a bit of an argument, as I have heard in the past, is whether Mario hits the blocks with his head or his fist. Well this picture should clarify it for those who still think with their heads:

Okay now this is pretty awesome, from San Francisco, D-structure have for sale a jacket with back design resembling those pesky invaders:

Finally we all know how the SNES was a gorgeous console, and many can think of a few games off the top of their heads.. well how about 100? Here’s a video covering 100 titles in 10 minutes. Enjoy, and I’ll see you all tomorrow!

A very good article on how tough cartridge-based games are in comparison to discs nowadays.

Not only speaking to just about every GameTraders store in the northern part of SA, and other notable stores like Amusementworx, Games 4 All and GameBizz. As well as handing out flyers and cards to really enthusiastic folk at said stores :) I also managed to score the following:

From GameTraders Parabanks

From Games 4 All:
Super Metroid
Stunt Race FX
From GameTraders Prospect:
Vortex
From GameTraders Norwood:
Bonanza Bros. (Master System)
From GameTraders Ingle Farm:
Super Punch Out
AV Cable for SNES/N64/GC
All in all a successful day of spreading the good word of Retrospekt and getting to chat to great folk who are into old-school gaming :) Merry Xmas y’all!

With the weather exceeding 40 degrees Celcius (105-109 degrees Fahrenheit), and being there at peak time (after school, after work), Marion Shopping Centre was a war zone! I’m luckily an efficient shopper when it comes to shopping centres. I was in and out of that place within 30 minutes pretty much. I only went for 6 reasons.
NOTE: I’m well aware that one is definitely not a retro title, and the other one being questionable, as it is new, yet faithful homage as opposed to a remake..
First it was the stop to GAME:

See what I meant by what I said in the note above? :) Okay last stop was Gametraders:

All four games worked! Meaning more games to review for you folk :)

A trip down memory lane with … Alex Kidd In Miracle World!
Written by Mel Portolesi
Back in the mid 80’s my family pounced on the release of the Sega Master System (that is Version 1 with both a cartridge AND card slot) … it was a definite improvement on the Sega SC3000H. Perched up high on a shelf in his red overalls, it was love at first sight. Alex Kidd In Miracle World was one of our first game purchases … with Version 1 this was not built-in. To this day it remains one of my old time favourites. The elements that attracted me as a child have stood the test of time. First of all our cute lil super-hero can pack a killer punch with a fist the size of his head. Colourful side-scrolling game play, a multitude of cute characters, with an awesome 8-bit soundtrack! What more could a [big] kid want?

So what does one do, with the determination to “Crush it”, to eat good food, get drunk mandatorilly, to hang out with an awesome friend, to hide from the heat, and reminisce on what could well be one of the finest 8-bit home consoles ever made? To combine all of them into one Friday night in…

What Chiptunes or general games music are you listening to? Talk to us about what you like, dislike and have been listening to over and over lately?
I myself have been listening to a lot of work from the 8bitpeoples collective lately.

I remember playing this on the Sega Master System 2, the 8bit versions of Michael Jackson’s classics, like Smooth Criminal in level 1.. I never got to play the Mega Drive version of it, nor the arcade one. Either way, it should be interesting to see what kind of reception this game will get, especially after Michael’s death.
